Visit the Saraakallio Experience Centre

Welcome to the Saraakallio Experience Center in Peurunka!

At the Saraakallio Experience Center, located within Spa & Resort Peurunka, visitors can embark on a time travel journey thousands of years into the past — to the ancient natural surroundings and the famous Saraakallio rock paintings.

The original Saraakallio rock paintings are located on a 40-meter-high cliff formation on the eastern shore of Lake Saraavesi, opposite the village of Laukaa. The oldest paintings are estimated to be around 7,000 years old — older than the pyramids of Egypt! At the experience center, fictional characters inspired by historical facts bring the rock art and life from 7,000 years ago closer to the modern visitor. The center offers a chance to explore the paintings, their origins, and the people who created them.

The Saraakallio Experience Center offers activities for all ages, including an exciting time machine, a climbing wall for school-aged children, rock painting, and ancient mysticism through sound and video. Through the story of the mythical local figure Sarâ and her family, visitors are guided on a magical journey into history and their roots.
