Tampere – where soothing lake views meet urban culture

Tampere is a unique combination of Lakeland charm and the urban Nordic city. Many public saunas, cultural events, laid-back locals, and the old red-brick industrial buildings next to the Tammerkoski River, which runs through the city, are some of the ingredients that make Tampere one of the most attractive cities in Finland.

Best reasons to visit Tampere in a nutshell

There's plenty of things to do in the Tampere region year-round. Uncover Tampere's rich heritage of industrialization by observing the charming old red brick industrial buildings and impressive architecture. Or discover the city of innovation and technology by exploring how rolls of cotton have turned into lines of code at the museum Vapriikki, next to the Tammerkoski rapids.

While you are at it, enjoy a bite of Finnish cuisine by tasting the locally produced black sausage ("mustamakkara" in Finnish) with lingonberry sauce and the world’s best doughnuts in Pyynikki. Take in the stunning views of Näsijärvi and Pyhäjärvi lakes from the Näsinneula Observation Tower, visit the world's only Moomin museum, or experience a rollercoaster ride in the amusement park Särkänniemi. Do not forget to embrace your inner Finn by enjoying a steam at one of the more than 50 local saunas in the sauna capital of the world. If you're a lover of the arts, visit one of the many museums in the region, like Sara Hilden Art Museum, or the Tampere Art Museum.
